Role overview 

You will be working with our IT department, based in the London office, supporting over 280 people who are based in our London or Nottingham sites with both office based and remote workers.

The IT Team is currently made up of 5 individuals with roles varying from head of department to apprentice, each team member brings their own skills and enhances the services we provide to our end users.

We have an opportunity for an experienced Helpdesk Analyst to join our IT team based in the London office as an IT Helpdesk Analyst.

Reporting directly to the Senior IT Manager, the successful candidate should have experience of working in a tech support environment, managing workload via a ticketing system and working on both end user issues whilst also having an understanding an overview of Microsoft server technologies.

Working with other team members, you will have some responsibility for working with and developing any apprentices we may take on and sharing your knowledge with them.

This is a varied role which end user support, server-side adjustments (Active Directory) and encompasses elements of network administration. 

As your knowledge of our systems grow, we will encourage you to suggest improvements to our existing infrastructure and implement them with guidance from our senior team, so learning on the job is a big part of this role.

The firms network runs in two locations, London and Nottingham, so whilst you will be based at the London office, you will be required to travel to Nottingham on occasions to provide in person support to our team there.

This role would suit someone who likes the unpredictability of supporting 280 different people working in the office, at home and remotely at client sites, and who enjoys the challenge of no two days being the same.

Job description

Duties will include:

  • Managing your jobs on our helpdesk system and providing support to our end users
  • Responsible for escalating problems you cannot fix on your own
  • Assisting with Mimecast content checking
  • Troubleshooting basic printer problems
  • Setting up IT equipment in meeting rooms
  • Rebuilding desktops and laptops with hardware and software including OS
  • Setting up computers, laptops, telephones, and other desk based hardware
  • Ensuring machine/application patches are up to date
  • Rebuilding and renaming computers
  • Troubleshooting backups when there are problems
  • Working with our IT Supervisor and Senior IT Manager towards Cyber Essentials Plus
  • Providing occasional out of hours support (1st line)

Training:

  • Training will be provided in any apps specific to us to allow 1st/2nd line support
  • Our Knowledgebase contains a wealth of info relating to our apps and network
  • We support our team members in gaining MS qualifications which relate to their role in the business and allow them to add value to the team.
  • We will happily work with the candidate to improve their own IT knowledge

Working arrangements

The working week: 35 hours per week (Monday-Friday) to be worked from 09:30-17:30 with flexibility of hours to meet specific work demands.

Location: Your principal work base is our London Office. However, you will be required to spend time working in our Nottingham office on occasions where infrastructure improvements require an onsite presence.

Person specifications – Desirable experience and skills 

  • Ideal candidate must be passionate about IT and be able to demonstrate the ability to innovate solutions in previous roles.
  • Educated to at least GCSE/NVQ level (or equivalent) ideally in computing related subjects.  
  • An ICT GCSE (or equivalent) qualification would be useful
  • Candidate should be able to work well in a team and contribute in group discussions and team meetings
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills are essential. The successful candidate will need to give guidance and instruction to non-technical employees and partners of the firm.
  • The ability to troubleshoot IT issues from start to finish, documenting as you go and applying the same methodical approach to varying issues is essential.
  • Good time management with the ability to prioritise
  • Ability to take initiative
  • Experience of working in an accountancy practice would be an advantage
  • Desirable - a knowledge of Azure AD, MS qualifications and a knowledge of Mimecast.
