UHY Hacker Young proudly supports Paralympic Medallist Shelly Woods as she prepares for the 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon

The women’s wheelchair racing event will be held in a secure biosphere and while there will be no spectators attending the event itself, BBC Sport will be broadcasting eight hours of live coverage throughout the day.

We have been headline sponsors of Shelly throughout her 2019/20 competitive year and are pleased to announce that we have also extended our support for Shelly throughout the 2020/21 competitive year.

Shelly comments: “Training has been a little different this year and we have had to adapt everything due to Covid. We’ve pretty much had to build a home gym as all of the gyms and my training venues were closed during lockdown.”

“Despite these obstacles, I’ve managed to get some good training done these last few months and I’m looking forward to finally being able to compete.”

“Unfortunately, my whole racing schedule for this year has been cancelled due to Covid. However, this has made this opportunity even more special, being the only racing event that I will be able to take part in this year.”

Chris Oxley, a partner in our Manchester office (and husband of Shelly!) also commented:

“One of the positives to come out of the pandemic is that I’ve been able to help Shelly out with training as I’m at home more. She’s been really pushing herself at the moment, so I’m excited to see if she can convert that into a good performance on Sunday.”

“It’s great to know that everyone at UHY Hacker Young will be supporting her all the way, which I know she is really thankful for.”

Colin Wright, Chairman of the UHY Hacker Young Group added: “UHY are proud to continue supporting Shelly throughout 2020/21.”

“Covid-19 has halted most sporting events this year, so we’re really pleased Shelly is able to compete in the London Marathon and hope to see more of a schedule of events for her next year. We all wish Shelly the best of luck and will be watching and cheering her on (albeit virtually) on Sunday.”

We will continue to update on Shelly’s progress and achievements at all the planned upcoming events.
