Paralympic Medallist Shelly Woods gets ready for 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon

Two-time London Marathon champion, British record holder and 2012 Paralympic silver medallist Shelly Woods is training hard and preparing for the 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon which is scheduled to go ahead on Sunday 4 October.

The women’s wheelchair race will be held in a secure biosphere as has been the case with major sporting events. There will be no spectator access to maintain the biosphere but BBC Sport plans to broadcast eight hours of coverage during the day.

UHY are pleased to have been headline sponsors of Shelly through her 2019/20 competitive year and have extended their support for Shelly throughout the 2020/21 competitive year.

UHY recently caught up with Shelly to find out how training has been going, Shelly commented:

“Training has been a bit different this year and we have had to adapt everything due to Covid. We pretty much had to build a home gym when all the gyms and my training venues were shut down. But I’ve managed to get some good training done these last few months and I’m looking forward to finally being able to get to race.

My whole race schedule for this year has been cancelled due to Covid and this is the only opportunity we have this year to race.”

Chris Oxley, a partner in the UHY Manchester office and husband of Shelly also commented;

“One of the positives to come out of the pandemic is that I’ve been able to help Shelly out with training as I’m at home more. She is pushing really well at the moment so I’m excited to see if she can convert it into a good performance on Sunday.  It’s also great to know that everyone at UHY is right behind her which I know she is really proud of.”

UHY would like to wish Shelly the best of luck and will continue to update on Shelly’s progress and achievements at all the planned upcoming events.
