With two days until GDPR, here’s a reminder of your responsibilities

23 May 2018

At the end of last year you may not have heard about the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR); however fast forward five months and GDPR, now only two days away, is one of the hottest topics of discussion amongst our charity clients.

Charities have always had a heightened awareness of data protection and confidentiality issues, and now the law is changing to give further protection and control to individuals, and greater transparency.  GDPR applies to all businesses, and there are no exemptions for charities on issues such as security, marketing and the use of volunteers.

The privacy rights of individuals are enshrined in law and you must be compliant. There’s no doubting that the amount of time and effort that has been put into planning and preparing for GDPR has been significant. But while everyone is now aware of the legislation, there are still a lot of charities working hard to understand the implications for their own organisation.

Alex Mendez, co-founder of independent cyber security consultancy Remora, explains the implications of the new data rules in our Charity Outlook. If you would like to remind yourself of your responsibilities and the steps you should be taking to ensure you are ready for the changes, you can download our Outlook here.
