Client case study: Bradley Lowery Foundation

25 March 2019

UHY Torgersens has worked with the Bradley Lowery Foundation since October 2017, assisting with their management accounts, advising on and implementing internal controls as well as carrying out the annual audit of financial statements.

About the Bradley Lowery Foundation

The Bradley Lowery Foundation was established in August 2017 by Gemma Lowery in memory of her son, Bradley, who died at the age of six after a lengthy battle with Neuroblastoma.

The foundation’s goal is to support campaigns that raise funds for sick children who need medical treatment or equipment that is not available on the NHS. The Charity is also working with Sunderland AFC and Scarborough council to raise funds to build a holiday home in Scarborough with the aim of allowing the families of sick children to make long-lasting memories.

The requirement

As the charity continued to grow, it was identified that improved systems of financial control were required. The previous accounting system consisted of numerous spreadsheets which needed to be continuously tracked to ensure that bank transaction and donation data was up to date.

The solution

UHY Torgersens met with the foundation’s team to review their requirements. It was agreed that a cloud system based on SAGE One software would be implemented and that the charity would be provided with the relevant training to use it.

During the first year, UHY Torgersens supported the foundation by reviewing the accounts generated by the cloud system on a monthly basis to ensure that all reconciliations were completed and that the charity’s financial reporting was in line with their expectations.

Advantages of cloud

The charity has found that the two main advantages of the cloud system are:

  • The ability for the system to be accessed remotely by UHY Torgersens to enable us to provide
    advice as required.
  • Being able to view and access each of the bank accounts of the 30 children the charity works with, quickly and from a single page.

Alison Henshaw, partner with UHY Torgersens said: "Working with the Bradley Lowery Foundation has been a real privilege. The team members are immensely dedicated to improving the lives of poorly children throughout the country and it is testament to their hard work that so much has been accomplished."
