Cyber crime guidance for charities

4 July 2019

In late June, the Charity Commission published updated guidance on protecting charities from cyber crime.

We find the timing of this to be particularly pertinent as it has been widely reported that organisations in the UK are facing a significant increase in such crimes compared to last year. Our charity clients are also reporting an increase in attempted cyber crimes to us as their auditors.

The guidance is separated into specific sections;

  • How to report fraud
  • How to protect against fraud
  • Counter fraud best practice: templates for charity trustees
  • About cyber crime and reporting a live attack
  • Cyber security toolkit for boards
  • Regulatory alerts about fraud
  • Organisations that combat fraud in charities

We would encourage all trustees and officers to read through the guidance to make sure you are well prepared to deal with any such attempts by fraudsters.
