Some businesses had called for an overhaul of the system, however, Rishi Sunak pledged that he would retain the current system, but with key reforms to ease the burden on high streets.
“We on this side of the House are clear that reckless, unfunded promises to abolish a tax that raises £25bn every year are completely irresponsible,” he said.
