On the finance front, the ESFA responded to the pandemic by cancelling the BFRO and extending the deadline for the three year BFR that was due in July. We are hoping some sense of normality will return soon.
This year’s report has been prepared from the results of our detailed analysis of the financial performance of academies across England and Wales. Year on year, our sample size has been increasing and this year we reviewed more than 1,300 academies through the academic year 2018/19, up from 800 schools last year.
Once again, the sample includes a mix of our own clients as well as other trusts to ensure we cover all areas of the country. MATs, secondary academies and primary academies are reviewed and, in some areas, we have drilled down further into the MAT data to analyse different sizes of MAT.
