The sample once again includes a mixture of our own clients plus other trusts to increase the number of schools included in the data used for the benchmarking. MATs, secondary academies and primary academies are reviewed and, in some areas, we have drilled down further into the MAT data to analyse different sizes of MAT.
2018 was an interesting year for academies, with many experiencing further financial uncertainties and pressures along with increased consolidation in the sector. A number of key issues have arisen which we discuss in our report, including:
- Increased scrutiny over executive pay in the sector
- Teacher pay rises and the announcement of a teachers’ pension employer contribution rate increase
- The announcement of new related party rules from April 2019
