Terry is a director in our specialist Innovation Tax reliefs consultancy based in Chester but with a nationwide scope.
He is a Chartered Accountant who has specialised in tax since 2001 and started filing R&D tax relief claims in 2007. Over the years, he has built a strong working relationship with HMRC, regularly engaging with its specialists and operational leads to ensure claims are robust, transparent, and aligned with current guidance.
Immediately before joining UHY, he established and led two centres of tax excellence at a top 15 accountancy firm, delivering £106 million in R&D tax savings over 9 years for companies across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland
Terry studied Electronic Systems in the mid-1980s and IT in the 1990s, and after an eclectic work life across many sectors, entered the accountancy profession at the age of 36.
Terry served as pro bono Finance Director of Changing Streams CIC for nearly two years, supporting its early development in reducing, substituting, and eliminating plastic in the built environment. His independent consultancy is also working towards B Corp certification, with a target date of early autumn 2025.
As a professional in a fluid tax landscape, Terry actively engages with HMRC at both an operational and planning level.
