Shelia, a Partner in our Manchester office tax department, graduated in 1988.

Following a stint with a merchant bank in London, she joined the Inland Revenue (now HMRC). Shortly afterwards she qualified as an Inspector of Taxes in 1992. Her main role was as an accounts investigator, but she was also responsible for taking cases to the appeal hearings and was involved in determining employment tax status enquires.

Shelia worked for HMRC until 1996 when she returned to Manchester and worked in practice for three years before joining our Manchester office in September 1999. Sheila’s experience and breadth of knowledge gained over the last 30 plus years means she is especially well placed to deal with all aspects of HMRC’s enquiries. She has experience of specialised compliance checks, including suspected serious fraud Code of Practice 9 (COP9) enquiries, personal and corporate tax enquiries and large cross tax enquiries.

She is now also involved in and advises on a wide range of employment related areas including voluntary disclosures, employment taxes due diligence, the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) and National Minimum Wages (NMW) issues.
