Sean Glancy is a VAT & indirect taxes partner based in our London office. He helps clients manage tax risk through planning, review and control strategies.
He works within the spirit of the law to develop cost reduction solutions which are appropriate and avoid client and adviser reputational risk. Sean started his career in tax in 1990 and was a Senior Officer in HM Customs & Excise before moving into practice.
He has worked in the 'Big Four' for nearly 20 years, studied law for seven years and is a Chartered Tax Adviser. Sean has worked with every type of client - large corporates, entrepreneurial businesses, government departments, agencies, local authorities, housing associations and charities.
He has led international reviews, provided advice on cross border operations, been involved in trade body negotiations and high profile litigation. He has acted as lead indirect tax adviser on significant government-funded developments involving multiple stakeholders.
Sean has also presented at client events including international tax conferences, client general meetings and provided training to in house teams and lawyers. Sean has managed to secure refunds in excess of £100m of overpaid VAT for clients. He has significantly mitigated property development indirect tax costs through engagement with the client teams over the life cycle of design and construction projects. This included achieving 95% mitigation which resulted in a £9m saving for a client - this was invested in further development of the campus.
He is recognised as a leading sector specialist in respect of research and as an adviser to grant-funded bodies. Clients regularly provide Sean with glowing testimonials, including:
