Andrew Snowdon is a partner and Head of Tax in the London office of UHY Hacker Young. He has extensive experience providing tax advice; from SMEs and larger corporate clients to dealing with private high-net-worth individuals. This includes advising clients on the short and long term tax aspects of acquisitions, disposals and restructuring.

He advises on a whole range of international tax matters, including cross-border planning, transfer pricing issues and dealing with numerous new issues arising from the OECD’s Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) rules. In addition, he advises individuals in matters of residence and domicile. To support his international expertise, Andrew is an active member of the International Fiscal Association and the Chartered Institute of Taxation European Branch.

With a background covering a wide range of personal and corporate taxes, Andrew ensures that clients get a completely ‘joined up’ service. Andrew has also been actively involved with the impact of the Criminal Finances Act 2017, the interpretation by HMRC of the defence procedures required and dealing with clients and the real practical implications of the new measures.

His broader expertise includes dealing with HMRC enquiry cases, share valuation exercises, employee remuneration and acting for personal tax clients and professional partnerships. He has particular experience in the property and construction sector – advising on all aspects within this vast market, including real estate companies and mitigating taxes (including SDLT) on large property portfolios, as well as a growing number of construction and ancillary industries. He also focuses on the technology and manufacturing sectors, which has included maximising research and development tax credit claims for clients and advising and implementing the highly tax efficient Enterprise Investment Scheme for companies raising finance.

Andrew’s mission is to bring commercialism into tax and he enjoys a great relationship with his clients as a result. Off duty he is a keen cyclist and devotee of calisthenics, which contrary to common belief involves a gym rather than folding a piece of paper. He has two teenage sons who he’s forced into supporting Arsenal FC, so that they understand the true meaning of going without!
