Charity Commission opens advice line for charity whistleblowers

31 May 2019

In a move to encourage whistleblowers at charities to come forward, the Charity Commission has created a dedicated support line opening from Monday 3 June. Callers can expect confidential advice from independent charity Protect – set up to help whistleblowers – who will operate the service.

The idea is that charity employees will be encouraged to raise their concerns and know how and whether to report them to the Commission. Advice and support will also be given on how to tackle senior management that are not listening to those trying to speak up. It is also hoped that the helpline will make it a less daunting experience and prevent whistleblowers from feeling isolated or fearful of losing their employment. Of course, the Commission also hopes to increase the reports in order to better tackle internal fraud and business misconduct within the sector.
