The team advised on seventeen M&A deals with a total value of £318.4m (2021: 16 deals with a total value of £316.1m). Our average deal value in 2022 of £18.7m is a slight decrease of 5% on our 2021 average deal value of £19.8m.
This was a fantastic achievement despite further economic and political factors during 2022 which impacted the M&A market, and it highlights the robust nature of the North-West deals market and the commitment from our team in getting deals over the line.
Reviewing data from Merger Market, UK deal volumes and valuations in 2022 decreased when compared to 2021, but this was more of a re-balance of exceptional deal metrics in the earlier periods post-pandemic as the M&A market opened and the demand for deals was significant. Deal volumes in 2022 are higher than the pre-pandemic period in 2019, and the outlook for 2023 is strong albeit inflation and interest rates have now set an interesting tone on valuations.
The above enforces the confidence we are seeing from our network of active buyers, who maintain a strong appetite for acquisitions.
