Becki – getting the balance right
Becki Roberts is a Director in our Nottingham office. She joined UHY in 2018 as an assistant manager, became a senior manager in 2020 when she was also appointed head of our national cloud offering and was appointed to Director in 2023.
She has been instrumental in overseeing the growth and success of both our Nottingham office and national cloud teams, sharing best practice and co-ordinating our service provision across our offices.
Becki took nine months maternity leave in 2021, returning to her dual role in early 2022.
Here, Becki shares her experience of working at UHY.
I really enjoy my leadership role at UHY. I joined UHY as I wanted to help drive the firm’s cloud-based offering forward, so when I was promoted to national Head of Cloud it was a special moment in my career.
Accounting is a fast-paced industry and it is going through a significant period of change. I am proud of the dynamic team that I have developed in our Nottingham office and the work cloud teams are doing across our UK offices. We have the skill set to adjust to the changing demands for our services across industries, which is fundamental in today’s environment.
UHY provided me with a great maternity support package that included a well-managed phasing package out of and back into work. My maternity leave was an opportunity to allow me to reset and refocus my career ambitions. I was able to come back into work with a clear strategy for my future progression.
Not long after returning to work, I was offered a place on the UHY Forum, an international training programme in Spain with 40 participants from 17 different countries. I was promised by a colleague before attending the forum that it would be the best thing I’d ever done professionally - he wasn’t wrong! The forum was an invaluable experience to learn new skills and connect with international colleagues.
We have recruited strongly from people of varying backgrounds and specialisms, both externally and moving people internally to better align with their interests and for those seeking fresh challenges.
My team works with new clients and existing clients looking to move accounting processes to the cloud, something which UHY can provide more scope with than other firms. I enjoy interacting with an array of clients. It's particularly rewarding today to be supporting many female entrepreneurs who are navigating the challenges of growing businesses in new and established markets.
UHY has always seen me as an equal to my colleagues and the only deciding factor in my career progression has been my performance.
