Simon Newark

Simon joined UHY Hacker Young in 2001 having spent ten years in HM Revenue & Customs and six years in professional practice. Simon heads the London office VAT department and is well known as a national VAT expert.

Simon is a Chartered Tax Adviser and a member of the Indirect Tax Sub-Committee of the Chartered Institute of Taxation. He represents the Kent Branch of the Chartered Institute of Taxation on the Working Together Initiative with HM Revenue & Customs and is a Council member of the VAT Practitioners Group.

Simon is also an active member of the UHY Property Sector Group. His expertise and knowledge of the VAT world enables him to identify current and forthcoming issues in the property and constructions sectors, where VAT already has a huge impact and is growing in complexity.

Simon is a father of two teenage children and confesses to those occasional ‘father v, teenage daughter’ moments! His interests include rugby (only recently hung up his boots) and bridge as well as tackling his wife's never-ending list of jobs - he tells us he is quite renowned for his bathroom tiling!
